The general Power of Attorney can be used for variety of reasons. It will allow a person or persons to act as though they were you to do transactions on your behalf. The person or persons you appoint should be someone you trust completely. Any document that requires your signature can be signed by the person you give your power of attorney to. Having one will be a valuable tool and will prevent having a guardian appointed when you are unable to handle your affairs, should you become incapacitated in any way. You must be of sound mind and legal age to sign to give someone power of attorney.

A Medical Power of Attorney gives a person or persons you name the power to make medical decisions when you cannot. You will have the control now to express and make certain that your wishes are known later on.

It is a good idea to have a Living Will, also known as an advance directive for a natural death. This document will make your wishes known whether you want your life prolonged by medical procedures in certain circumstances. It is a legal document in which you authorize or direct the withholding or withdrawal of life prolonging measures, along with making your wishes known should you reach that point and be unable to speak for yourself.
